LOCKDOWN THAT SKINCARE ROUTINE: Lawson Wright

Hello again. were back again this time we speak to our resident make up artist and former MAC professional & educator Lawson Wright, where he gives us the low down on the perfect lockdown skincare routine!

Hello people, Lawson here - your resident make-up artist at Hidden Heights! First of all, I hope you’re all well and looking after yourselves and your loved ones in these testing times. It sure is a strange time to be alive. I’m currently on lockdown with my mother and I couldn’t ask for a better lockdown buddy, we’re keeping each other busy and entertained and much to my shock we’ve even introduced a healthy diet and work out routine - so maybe I’ll finally shift some of that Christmas weight (fingers crossed).

When lockdown began, I figured I’d actually invest some of this rarely gifted free time back into myself and finally take on that New Year resolution of looking after my skin. Like many of us, I had completely let life get in the way and my skincare routine was non existent! Every day with every client I would preach the best ways for you to take care of your skin and now it’s my turn! Six weeks ago my skin was dull, dry and prone to the occasional breakout. Fast forward to now and I’ve seen a huge improvement (the best my skin has ever been!), simply by dedicating a couple of

minutes each day to give it the care it deserves. After all, we only get one skin. So here today I’m going to share with you the simple routine I have created for myself and followed religiously since lockdown began! (I’m too camera shy for YouTube)

HYDRATE

Drink water…loads of it…all day! Since quitting Diet Coke and flooding my body with water, I feel so much better in myself and it’s worked wonders on my skin!

CLEAN

I’ve been using Harry’s Face Wash for men each morning, but any face wash or cleanser with a built in light exfoliant and extract, is perfect for removing dirt and dead skin. Volcanic rock exfoliant is gentle enough to use daily, without over drying the skin! My skin can get quite dry, particularly around my beard so this exfoliant is perfect for removing that dead skin.

TIP: When exfoliating, be sure not to apply too much pressure and be gentle, ensuring that you avoid the eye area.

DETOX

Although my skin is exfoliated daily, once a week I apply a charcoal face mask to remove the excess oils, impurities and dirt. I’m currently using Bobbi Brown Instant Detox Mask (a long standing favourite of mine) This leaves my skin feeling super clean and nourished.

TIP:  Before applying my face mask I open my pores by applying a hot wet face cloth to my face, this allows the clay mask to get right in and do its work, I then leave it on till the mask goes dry and gently rinse off with warm water.

MOISTURISE

It’s true, this is the most important step in your skincare regime, think of your moisturiser as your skins food, I apply a tiny drop of M.A.C Charged Water Face and Body Lotion to clean dry skin both in the morning and again at night. This product is super lightweight and soaks straight in, leaving your skin feeling soft and visible healthier. On my eyes I use a tiny drop of M.A.C Fast Response Eye Cream which is loaded with caffeine to help reduce puffiness, firm the skin and reduce fine lines and wrinkles.

TIP: It lasts a long time, but buy two or you’ll be disappointed when it’s not in stock. Trust me, I learned the hard way ;)

So there it is…my simple guide to lockdown skin! In my next blog I’ll be announcing what I’ve been up to work wise and introducing you all to my latest project! (I can hardly contain my excitement!)

Remember, stay positive and look after yourselves (and your skin)
