Oh Comely Magazine | Issue 35

Simple rebellion or crazy tonal amalgamation?

It’s now been a year since the team at Hidden Heights Creative Studio were commissioned to work on the 35th issue of Oh Comely Magazine, in-house creatives, photographer Marie Harkness of Harkness Photography and hair stylist Aimee Mcpherson of BLUNT.am helped to create the front cover and editorial spread.

Why would the clash of prints or perhaps a monotone outfit be seen as taboos by the Fashion Industry? the visual response aimed at this popular pre-conception becomes clear as we look through the pages. This issue explores the facets of the power and poise of fashion through the female eye, accentuating the “rebellious” association of texture, colour and pattern through female empowerment.

Handpicked by the creative team, the front cover featured a young Newcastle based model, Deeann Shotton from Tyne Tees Models, who managed to, with her striking facial features, embody and personify the intangible representation of women autocracy.

The front cover as well as a fashion story was photographed by our own Harkness Photography, on hair was our creative hair stylist Blunt.am, other creatives involved in the shoot were fashion stylist and make up artist sister duo Jenny & Louise Brownlees. Jenny, stylist, writer and contributor for the likes of Elle, Stylist, Grazia, ASOS and now Oh Comely Magazine. The creative team came together to mood board the final looks, location and concept.

The photoshoot took place at the landscape of Marsden rock in south tyneside, where the team experimented with a mixture of textures by the sea, recreating instants of “visual ecstasy” depicted by the each of the looks and by the movement of the model.

Here are some of the breathtaking images from the fashion story…
